Effect of application of clinical case analysis in the cultivation of critical thinking ability for less-experienced midwives |

Abstract Objective To explore the effect of clinical case analysis in the cultivation of critical thinking ability for lessexperienced midwives,and to provide a reference for the future training model so as to promote the individual management of duration of labor.Methods Altogether 15 newly-recruited midwives(newly-recruited midwife group)who worked in delivery room in our hospital from June 2012 to June 2016 and 34 internship midwives(intern midwife group)were involved as the observation samples.Each clinical case related to the two groups during their work was analyzed and commented, respectively.CTDI-CV(Chinese version of the Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory)was used to perform comparative analysis of two groups after newly-recruited midwife group gained 6 months work experience.Results Before the trial of clinical case analysis,the CTDI-CV score of intern midwife group was(247.11±31.86)points,and the newly-recruited midwife group was(250.41±28.24)points,without significant difference(P>0.05);after 6 months trial of clinical case analysis, the CTDI-CV score of intern midwife group was(308.94±36.33)points,the newly-recruited midwife group was(324.34± 34.18)points;the CTDI-CV score of both groups were highly improved in comparison with that before training,with significant difference(P<0.05);the newly-recruited midwife group was achieved significantly better scores in truth discovery,analytical skills,systematic ability,thinking self-confidence and curiosity were improved than those of intern midwife group after training;and with the prolongation of training time,the difference between the two groups was more obvious, with statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion The clinical case analysis can significantly improve the critical thinking ability for less-experienced midwives,which is an ideal model of in-service training for midwives.And with the prolongation of training time,stronger critical thinking ability is gained by less-experienced midwives.
