Influencing factors of chronic cough in patients with non-small cell lung cancer after minimally invasive video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery |

Abstract Objective To investigate the influencing factors of chronic cough in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).Methods The clinical data of 48 NSCLC patients with chronic cough after VATS surgery in People′s Hospital of Danyang City, Jiangsu Province from January 2018 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed and included in the chronic cough group.The clinical data of 48 NSCLC patients without chronic cough after VATS were selected and included in the group without chronic cough.The general data of the two groups were collected and compared to analyze the influencing factors of chronic cough after VATS in NSCLC patients.Results Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in preoperative combined cough, surgical resection range, and tracheal intubation time between the chronic cough group and the nonchronic cough group (P<0.05).The results of multivariate analysis indicated that preoperative coughing (β=1.398, OR=4.048, 95%CI=1.125-14.569), surgical resection range of lung lobe (β=2.089, OR=8.077, 95%CI=3.244-20.110), longer tracheal intubation time (β=0.089, OR=1.093, 95%CI=1.052-1.136) were the independent risk factors of chronic cough in NSCLC patients after VATS (P<0.05).Conclusion Chronic cough after VATS in NSCLC patients may be related to preoperative coughing, the scope of surgical resection is the lung lobe and the longer tracheal intubation time.
