Correlation between carotid intima-media thickness,ankle-brachial index and the degree of coronary artery disease in patients with periodontal disease |

Abstract Objective To investigate the correlation between carotid intima-media thickness(CIMT),ankle-brachial index(ABI)and the degree of coronary artery disease in patients with periodontal disease.Methods A total of 180 patients with periodontal disease admitted to Hankou Hospital of Wuhan City from February 2018 to December 2019 were selected as the research objects.According to the Gensini scores,they were divided into normal group(n=40,Gensini score=0),group A(n=35,Gensini score>0-36),group B(n=37,Gensini score>36-78),group C(n=32,Gensini score>78-117)and group D(n=36,Gensini score>117-160).The CIMT,ABI,and Gensini scores of these group were compared.The Spearman method was used to analyze the correlation between ABI,CIMT,and Gensini scores in patients with periodontal disease and coronary artery disease.The ROC curve method was used to analyze ABI,CIMT and Gensini scores to predict the clinical value of coronary artery disease with periodontal disease.Results There was no statistically significant difference between the ABI of group A and the normal group(P>0.05),the ABI of groups B,C,and D were all lower than the normal group,and the CIMT and Gensini scores were higher than those of the normal group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).In patients with periodontal disease and coronary artery disease,ABI was negatively correlated with Gensini score(r=-0.602, P<0.05),and CIMT was positively correlated with Gensini score(r=0.651, P<0.05).The AUC,sensitivity and specificity for ABI,CIMT respectively predicting periodontal disease combined with coronary artery disease were lower compared with Gensini score,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in AUC,sensitivity,specificity and Gensini score of ABI combined with CIMT in predicting periodontal disease with coronary artery disease(P<0.05).Conclusion CIMT and ABI are closely related to the degree of coronary artery disease in patients with periodontal disease.The clinical value of ABI combined with CIMT in predicting periodontal disease with coronary artery disease is similar to the Gensini score and has better application value.
