Abstract:ObjectiveTo study the type of Plasmodium falciparum MSP-1(PfMSP-1)and PfMSP-2 gene in Bioko Island of Equatorial Guinea.Methods181 blood samples were collected from patients with malaria in Bioko Island.Microscopy and fluorescence quantitative PCR were used to identify the insect species.Nested PCR was used to amplify the specific fragment of PfMSP-1 and PfMSP-2 respectively, then the allele typing was conducted.ResultsPfMSP-1 genotypes:178 (98.34%)PfMSP-1 gene fragments were amplified from the 181 blood samples.MAD20-type,K1-type and RO33-type alleles were obtained from 171(94.48%),175(96.69%)and 126(69.61%)samples respectively. The mixed infection rate was 97.24%.PfMSP-2 genotypes:173(95.58%)PfMSP-2 gene fragments were amplified from the 181 blood samples of patients. Single 3D7-type and single FC27-type alleles were obtained in 8(26.52%)and 4(2.21%)samples respectively. The mixed infection rate was 66.85%.ConclusionPfMSP-1 and PfMSP-2 from Bioko Island are widespread.Mixed infection is the main type of malaria in Bioko Island.
